All of the above can be symptoms of drive failure. As a TiVo is always recording and accessing its database - even in standby! - it's not surprising that the drives may eventually fail. Around 95% of TiVo problems are related to drive failures, and in most cases one of our pre-configured replacement drives will both cure your problem¹ and upgrade your TiVo's capacity at the same time!

Our pre-configured drive upgrade kits provide a simple 15 minute, do-it-yourself upgrade, for people who don't mind losing their existing recordings and settings. Obviously, these are stored on your current drive, so when you replace the drive they will be lost. However, the Upgrade Drives come pre-configured with the latest TiVo software (Release 2.5.5^*) and are ready to plug-in and go!

• One or two brand new, fully tested Samsung or Western Digital hard drive(s) preconfigured with the latest TiVo software. Unlike some competitors we DO NOT use cheap Maxtor drives as these are simply not reliable enough for TiVo use!

• A bootable CD containing a backup of the TiVo software plus the tools you need to re-install it or add a second drive yourself at a later stage

What you have to do: 

• Open your TiVo with the supplied torx bit (5 mins) 
• Take out the existing hard drive(s) (5 mins). 
• Put in the upgrade drive(s) (5 mins) and replace the lid.

• Software Version 2.5.5a - If you have software version 2.5.5a then please select this option below as drives must have the right software version! (how to check your software version) For more information about this, see here 

• Mode 0 Recording Setup + TiVoWeb - allow your TiVo to record in the highest possible resolution by using Mode 0.  As we have to install the drivers and TiVoWeb to change the bitrates, a handy side-effect of this is that you will also get Cachecard Drivers and TiVoWeb installed too - for free! Please see here for further important information about Mode 0 recording. NB. Unlike some suppliers, our Mode 0 installation allows you to SWITCH OFF Mode 0 if you find that you don't like it! • Extra Drive Bracket - if you have a single-drive TiVo and purchase a 2-drive upgrade then you will need to secure the 2nd drive somehow. Many people use cable-ties, but if you want to use a proper drive bracket then this is it. 

• Special Delivery by 9am Shipping - all our prices include Special Delivery by 1pm shipping, but if you need to have your upgrade by 9am then please choose this option. Please note, this option is not available for Saturday deliveries.

Western DIGITAL 'GREEN POWER' DRIVes ^*NEW*

A brand new development from WD, these superb drives are designed to reduce environmental damage by consuming up to 38% less power than comparable drives through use of large buffers and intelligent control of spindle and seek speeds. The benefit for TiVo use is the super cool running and very quiet operation, almost as quiet in fact as the now legendary Samsung HA250JC. The new design, SATA interface and mass production mean that these drives are also considerably cheaper per gigabyte and thus better value than older IDE drives.  Supplied with a simple-to-fit IDE-SATA converter. 

samsung 5400RPM 'ecOgREEN' dRIVes ^*NEW*

The new range of 'EcoGreen' drives from Samsung run at 5400rpm like the much loved HA250JC and are therefore extremely quiet and cool running. They run slightly cooler than the WD Green Power drives of the same size in our opinion and have extremely low vibration and head noise. The new design, SATA interface and mass production mean that these drives are also considerably cheaper per gigabyte and thus better value than the now unavailable HA250JC. Supplied with a simple-to-fit IDE-SATA converter.

2. Drive supplied will be either WD Green Power or Samsung EcoGreen depending on stock levels unless you add a note at the PayPal checkout or email us when placing the order to specify a preference. If we do not have your preferred drive in stock then there may be a delay of up to two weeks while we wait for stock to arrive. However, if you specify a preference and we don't have stock then we will always email you to advise of any possible delays.
